Exclusive Nutritional Review Offer
For a limited time, purchase any new mixer from AgPlus and receive a *Free Nutritional Review from registered Veterinarian and consultant David Hawkins of Franklin Vets.
The biggest factor impacting a cow’s performance, and therefore a farm’s performance, is what, when, how much and at what cost a cow is eating. Franklin Vets offers a variety of services to assist farmers in ensuring optimal performance from their herds supporting sustainable, productive, profitable and animal welfare-friendly farming systems.
While David's services are often tailored to suit individual farms, several of these are in a modular format and the Nutritional Review Module is probably the most suitable service to fit around the after sales support for feed out wagons/mixers. There is an initial on farm visit, then a follow up phone/zoom consultation included.
Note* any outsourced tests or any extra on farm visits/consults are not included in this Free offer from AgPlus.
The Nutritional Review Module is broken down into the following:- Feed Analysis – the key thing to understand is how to get the best out of your cows and feed system, and understand the limitations of what is going into the cows.
- Pasture samples relevant to the time of the review.
- Silage samples from maize +/- pasture silage.
- Review of the current production and diet.
- Identify the assumptions the farmer is making around what is being fed.
- Back calculate from the production and cow condition what they are consuming.
- Determine the accuracy of the farmer’s assumptions and discuss.
- Identify dietary risks and limitations compared to target/potential production.
- Formulate a new diet (if required) to meet/exceed health, production and profitability targets, and that fits the system.
- Determine how this will be implemented with the systems available.
The feed analysis is completed and the results available and loaded into the models prior to the Nutrition Review Meeting.
Provision of the past 10 days milk production data (minimum), the number of cows in supply and the current diet being fed is required at the beginning of the review.
Cows are assessed visually, and pre-grazing mass and residual mass estimated at the beginning of the on farm meeting.
Then the diet is assessed and reformulated where or if required. Discussion around how this best works in the system/wagon follows and the report is left as a diet sheet with commentary outlining pasture allowance, mob size and dietary composition in kg/t dry matter and kg/t as fed. This is followed up by a phone/zoom consultation at a later date.
All testing is outsourced to Hill Laboratories
